For many years Ledina Hospital School has paid special attention to the arts; music, literature, visual arts, and sound art, etc. Every year we create the school newspaper “Utrinki (Shooting Stars)” with our students, which is published on our website in June.

Various literary and artistic pieces are created by our students throughout the school year, but we decided to also put them on display for the visitors of the University Children’s Hospital Ljubljana. For World Poetry Day we prepared an exhibition of poetry in the lobby of our paediatrics clinic and invited children, parents, medical staff, and other passers-by at the clinic to co-create the poetic lines with us in the exhibition.

We have participated in the project “Problem-based learning for students in the workplace” (in cooperation with University of Ljubljana’s Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television), and together with children, radio journalists, Slovene theatre actors and doctors we prepared different Hospital radio shows about art, as well as about health, with the intention of using sound art to prepare children for surgery. We created literary nocturnes. The poetry was written by our students, and it was read by Slovene actors. We published the literary nocturnes on our hospital school website, and they also found their place in a booklet that was put together for this occasion.
Doctors participated by providing information about different illnesses in a clear and straightforward way for the children.
