Listening to Our Community: What HOPE Members Shared

Earlier this year the Board of HOPE reached out to members through a questionnaire to better understand how the organisation is supporting hospital educators and how we could grow. We were delighted to receive 27 thoughtful responses from across Europe and beyond.

What’s Working Well?
Members appreciate the HOPE congresses, calling them “engaging,” “well-run,” and “a great opportunity to connect.” The newsletter also stood out as a valued, professional, and emotionally resonant resource. Many highlighted HOPE’s role as a trusted networking and support platform.

What Could Be Improved?
Suggestions focused on more regular online opportunities, from webinars to job shadowing and professional exchanges. There’s a call for regional meetups, more international collaboration, and clearer communication (like updating contact info and simplifying newsletters).

Topics Members Want to Explore:

  • Mental health and trauma
  • Teaching methods and inclusion
  • Technology in hospital education
  • National approaches to hospital schooling
  • Support for special needs and gifted learners

Barriers Some Face
Cost, time, and travel constraints, especially for international events, remain significant hurdles. There was also concern about the use of limited funds on programs not useful to all members.

Final Thoughts
From Brazil to Switzerland, Ireland to Armenia, the feedback reflects a passionate, diverse community that values HOPE’s mission and wants to see it grow stronger, more inclusive, and even more impactful.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and ideas.
